Fly Southwest: PVD to Idaho Falls, Idaho

The crisp Rhode Island air has a certain tangy kick to it. It takes me back to the countless days of adventure just waiting to unfold before me, the prelude always beginning with the taste of that unruly northeastern zephyr on my tongue. I think back with a chuckle, how I’ve watched travelers face that air; the naked surprise in their eyes. And the hardened world trippers tasting familiarity, just a common port on another one-way journey.

This time, it's my turn to be surprised as I'm venturing out West, to the sprawling landscapes of Idaho Falls, through Southwest. A preferred traveling companion since the maiden breeze took me away years ago! Their flight schedule has rarely disappointed, making every flight, the beginning of a new narrative.

Before I plunge any further into the delightful tale of my escapade, let’s get the technical talk out of the way: The flights. Now, the thought of airfare has often been the villain in any traveler’s story, meticulously plotting to discourage any plans of globe-trotting. However, Southwest has been my knight in shining armor, offering cheap flights and last-minute flights, never once leaving me in the lurch.

Sure, direct flights would have been dreamy and quick, soaring in the heavens straight from Providence to the alluring realms of Idaho Falls. Yet, life takes a detour and so did my flight. A layover stood between me and the bewitching Idaho air. As a seasoned traveler, I've come to cherish these restricted pauses. Layovers, like speedbumps on a road trip; so essential, yet secretly offering a peek into another unseen world.

Choosing between the classes for a flight, now that’s an age-old debate: Business class that pampers, Economy class that’s true to its purpose or the Premium Economy class that perfectly balances luxury within logic. But I’m pretty old school, round-trip in Economy class does the job for me. It’s all about the journey, remember, even if your limbs are complaining just a tad bit!

The baggage allowance has me packing my bag with gloved precision, somehow managing to stuff in the essentials and a little bit of whimsy. I stow away some of that Providence air in a tiny glass jar, a reminiscent keepsake of all my journeys.

Back to the day at hand: I check my ticket, browse through the in-flight services and sigh. One more flight successfully succumbed to the traveler’s spirit ringing inside me! Southwest’s flight cancellation policy offers a relief as the takeoff time closes by. I join the rest of the frequent flyers at the terminal, glancing around at the various narratives brewing around me.

The flight is called, it’s time! Time for me to write another chapter in my grand book of travels, to follow the winding course of another exciting journey, to surrender to the beckoning call of yet another horizon. Inherent in the life of a traveler is the thirst for tales and Southwest never fails to quench that thirst, time and again.

As the engines grumble to life with a roar, melody to the ears of an explorer, my heart throbs in rhythm. So, here’s to Southwest and to Idaho Falls, to the miles ahead and the solace they bring, to new beginnings and tales yet untold. Let the saga continue!
